Scarce. Very fine.

The city of Eikonion became a Roman colony under Augustus but issued both coins with its Latin name Colonia Iulia Augusta Iconiensis as well as with its Greek name Eikonion / Klaudeikonion (the latter in honor of Claudius). Aulock, Lykaonien, p. 56f. suggests that Augustus only gave part of the city's territoriy to his veterans while the polis of Eikonion continued to exist. Under Hadrian, the coins of the polis ceased to be issued whereas the coinage of the colony is quite abundant until the time of Valerian and Gallienus, indicating that Hadrian united the polis and the colony.
