  eAuction #61, Lot 69. Estimate: CHF 400.00

Marcus Aurelius (161-180 AD). AE Sestertius (31-32 mm, 22.47 g), Rome, 168/169 AD. Obv. M ANTONINVS AVG TR P XXIII, Laureate head to right. Rev. PROFECTIO AVG / S C in two lines in exergue, COS III above, Marcus holding spear on horse pacing right, preceded by one soldier on foot and followed by three other soldiers. BMCRE 1349; C. 500 (25 Francs); RIC 963 (R).
Rare. With a beautiful light turquoise patina, slightly damaged on rim between 10 and 2 o'clock on obverse, and with fantastic reverse details. Almost very fine.
The reverse type commemorates Aurelius' return to the Danube front early in 169.
