France/Italy. Pair of two AR Medals:

Napoléon I. AR Medal 1803 (40 mm, 33.96 g). By Jeuffroy.
Obv. Bare head of Bonaparte to right; below truncation, JEUFFROY FECIT / 1803; below, DENON DIR. G. D. MUSEE C. D'ARTS.
Rev. LA VICTOIRE AVX ARTS, The Venus de Medici; below, L'AN IV DU CONSULAT DE BONAPARTE.
Edge stamped "Hand, ARGENT".
Bramsen 280; Slg. Julius 1184.

Nicely toned. Edge bump, otherwise good extremely fine.

The Venus de Medici had been captured by the French and it was shipped to Paris in 1803. Denon, as Director of the Louvre, presented an example of the medal to Napoleon when he came to see the statue. After the fall of Napoleon the Venus was returned to Florence in 1815.

Maria Luigia. AR Medal 1816 (41 mm, 29.92 g). Arrival in Parma. By Santarelli.

Nicely toned. Edge bump, otherwise good extremely fine.

The Congress of Vienna recognised Maria Luigia as ruler of Parma, Piacenza and Guastalla. On April 18 1816 she entered the duchy of Parma.

The medals are set in a very presentable, contemporary (?) blue case.
