Geta, as Caesar (198-209 AD). Assarion (23 mm, 4.75 g), Gytheion, Peloponnesos. 202-205 AD. Obv. ΛOY CЄΠ ΓЄTAA KA (sic!), bare-headed, draped and cuirassed bust right, seen from behind. Rev. ΓYΘЄATWN, Dionysos standing left, holding Thyrsos with left hand over right shoulder, kantharos above panther in right. BCD Peloponnesos 981 (same dies).
Extremely rare and in exceptional condition for a Peloponnesian provincial issue. Pleasant patina and extremely fine.
Gytheion was the main port and naval base of Lakedaimonia.
